The Alamedinsky District Court of Chui region sentenced Alga Kylychev, a supporter of former president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev, a member of the Social Democrats party, in a criminal case on Koi-Tash events.
The court reported that Alga Kylychev was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 43, Part 2 of Paragraphs 1, 3, 4 of Part 3 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was sentenced to ten years behind bars to be served in a general regime prison colony. Alga Kylychev was taken into custody in the courtroom.
The activist’s lawyer, Zhanat Gulzhigitov, spoke about legal chaos on the part of Alamedinsky district judge Talgat Shankaev.
«Today, despite my request to postpone the trial, without my participation, replacing me with a public defender, who in five minutes could not physically familiarize himself with case materials consisting of 40 volumes, without our speaking at the debate of the parties, he sentenced Alga Kylychev to 10 years in prison,» he noted.
The lawyer recalled that Alga Kylychev is charged under Article 257 «Hostage-taking» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. «During the four-year trial, not a single security forces soldier or Interior Ministry officer testified against Alga Kylychev,» he added.
Human rights activist Aziza Abdirasulova also reported on Facebook that Alga Kylychev was taken to pre-trial detention center 1. «After the trial they called an ambulance for him. Kylychev has diabetes. He has suffered from cirrhosis of the liver for two years. After the verdict was announced, his relatives brought him the necessary medicines, but the guards did not let them through,» she said.
The human rights activist added that in the pre-trial detention center Alga Kylychev was subjected to torture by law enforcement officers.
On August 7, 2019, the special forces of the State Committee for National Security attempted to storm the residence of Almazbek Atambayev in Koi-Tash. The next day, the joint forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Committee for National Security carried out another special operation to detain the owner of the residence. The security forces managed to take Almazbek Atambayev out of Koi-Tash. Supporters began throwing stones at security forces and setting fire to tires and garbage. For two days of clashes, 136 people were injured, one special forces soldier died from a bullet wound.
