Social media have become the main source of information for Kyrgyzstanis. Such data are presented in the media market study «Perception and Behavior of the Media Audience in Kyrgyzstan. 9th Wave», which was conducted by the research and consulting company M-Vector together with Internews in the Kyrgyz Republic.
More than 60 percent of respondents aged 14 to 44 named social media as their main source of information. Online media is in second place, followed by television.
Kyrgyzstanis over 45 years old still mostly watch TV. Social media and online media outlets are in second and third place, respectively.
People under 44 also receive information through instant messengers. There are fewer of them among people at the age of 45 and older, but they often learn news from friends and relatives.
It should be noted that for a long time television remained the main source of information for Kyrgyzstanis.
However, people still watch TV. In Bishkek, for example, the most watched Russian channels are Russia RTR and ORT (Channel One). NTRK is in third place.
As M-Vector explained, a total of 3,636 people took part in the survey. It was held from November 13 to November 26, 2023. Respondents from all regions of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the cities of Osh and Bishkek, took part in it.
