Kyrgyzstan again postpones introduction of CMTPL insurance for individuals

The deadline for introduction of Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability insurance (CMTPL) for vehicle owners has been postponed. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.

It was decided that CMTPL insurance for individuals will be postponed for a year and will be introduced from January 1, 2025.

Previously it was proposed to defer introduction of CMTPL insurance for only six months.

The press service of the ministry promised to provide detailed information about the decision later.

The Cabinet resolution No. 682 of December 16, 2022 stipulated that the CMTPL insurance certificate would be on the list of documents required to be presented to the inspector of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. In case of its absence, the car owner was planned to be fined from April 1, 2023. However, later the authorities announced a postponement. President Sadyr Japarov said that he took the project under personal control and would bring it to fruition.

The law on CMTPL insurance of vehicle owners was adopted in Kyrgyzstan seven years ago.
