Taalatbek Masadykov proposed for post of CSTO Deputy Secretary General

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic addressed the regular session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in a narrow format, which takes place in Minsk.

According to Sadyr Japarov, the agenda includes issues of topical nature both for further development of the organization and deepening of interaction of the CSTO member states on peacekeeping, international and regional security.

«The geopolitical situation in the world shows that the emerging situation becomes increasingly complex and contradictory. We are watching with deep empathy the situation in the Middle East and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. We call on the parties to take exhaustive measures to prevent casualties and violence against civilians, to cease hostilities as soon as possible and to begin the negotiation process without delay. We stand out for consolidation of efforts of the world community to peacefully resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly on the basis of the two states principle,» he said.

The head of state added that the situation in Afghanistan continues to be the focus of attention. Kyrgyzstan is interested in a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and fully supports all multilateral negotiation processes to resolve the situation in this country. The Kyrgyz side welcomes the efforts made by the interim government of Afghanistan and supports their desire to fulfill their obligations to the international community.

Sadyr Japarov emphasized that in order to prevent further deterioration of the social and humanitarian situation in this country, Kyrgyzstan stands for continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

«Today we will sign a number of relevant documents related to peacekeeping activities. In particular, the composition of the peacekeeping forces and the deployment of peacekeeping contingents of the CSTO member states will be updated, which will create conditions for the practical involvement of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent in UN peacekeeping operations,» he added.

Sadyr Japarov noted that from January 2024, the position of one of the Deputy Secretary Generals will be transferred to Kyrgyzstan. He approved the candidacy of the Special Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic for Special Assignments Taalatbek Masadykov for appointment to this position.
