Work on detection of cars without catalytic converters to be stepped up

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, together with the Department of the Patrol Police Service, is intensifying efforts to detect cars without catalytic converters in Bishkek and large cities of the country. The press service of the ministry reported.

According to it, the measures are aimed at taking preventive measures to combat smog.

«Inspectors of mobile posts of the Ministry of Natural Resources, equipped with gas analyzers, during inspections measure the amount of harmful emissions from exhaust gases of cars running on gasoline and diesel fuel: carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbons and other compounds. They are also carrying out explanatory work on the mandatory installation of catalytic converters on cars,» the ministry noted.

In case of excess emissions of harmful substances (exhaust gases), owners of private vehicles will be fined 7,500 soms, and legal entities — 23,000.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said that since March 1, more than 425 cars have been checked during joint raids in Bishkek, six protocols have been drawn up, and fines of 45,000 soms have been imposed. At least 200 protocols were drawn up under the article «Violations of transport operating rules» with fines in the amount of 950,000 soms.
