EAEU to have unified rules for labeling juices, mobile phones and laptops

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) considered a set of initiative proposals of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and decided to establish unified rules for labeling of medicines, soft drinks, juices, as well as mobile phones and laptops in the EAEU states. Press service of the EEC reported.

According to the adopted documents, the member countries will independently determine the date of introduction and the procedure for labeling products with identification means on their territory, notifying the EEC no later than six months before the start of these activities.

In connection with the peculiarities of the system of labeling of medicines in Kyrgyzstan, the EEC Council provided for an exemption allowing to apply requirements to the means of identification different from the decision taken.

In addition, in connection with the positions of member states of the Union, the lack of intentions of a number of countries to introduce labeling at the current stage was separately noted. Thus, in respect of medicines it is Armenia, in respect of soft drinks and juices — Kazakhstan, and in respect of laptops and mobile phones — Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

«The Commission has made fundamental decisions aimed at ensuring one of the basic freedoms of the EAEU. Thanks to the agreements reached, it will be possible to create conditions for the unimpeded movement of goods through the territory of the Union and prevent the emergence of barriers in the domestic market,» the Minister for Trade of the EEC Andrei Slepnev said.
