A list of people and organizations, similar to the Russian register of «foreign agents» appeared on the website of the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan. The Insider reported.
According to the media outlet, the full list of figures is available in an interactive table.
The first list contains 240 people and organizations, which include independent media, journalists, human rights organizations and NGOs.
The legislation of the republic does not impose any restrictions on the list’s figures.
The journalists learned about the intention to create in Kazakhstan an analog of the Russian register of «foreign agents» in March from the published order of the Minister of Finance Yerulan Zhamaubaev. It was claimed that «such a measure will increase the level of citizens’ trust in the state and NGOs».
In the spring of 2022, former Minister of Information and Public Development Askar Umarov stated that journalists in the country would not be persecuted and called the inclusion of certain media outlets in «foreign agents» category «not exactly our method».
