President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to resolve the situation at the checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border in the spirit of partnership and fraternal relations between the countries. The press service of the head of state of the neighboring country reported.
He also noted the need to continue negotiations with the Kyrgyz side on more active introduction of digitalization and automation to prevent illegal transportation of goods across the border.
A line of trucks started forming at the checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border on August 20. Kilometers-long traffic jams formed along the route. Drivers waited in line for days to pass through the checkpoints. They were provided with hot meals.
As of August 24, there were more than 600 trucks at the checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh section of the state border. The Border Service of Kyrgyzstan recalled that the checkpoints on the Kyrgyz side were operating as usual.
The authorities of Kazakhstan announced holding of an anti-drug operation. The Border Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan also noted that it did not introduce any restrictions at the checkpoint. Kyrgyzstan turned to the Eurasian Economic Commission for help, which sent its representatives to study the situation. The passage of vehicles has accelerated since August 24, but there are still a lot of trucks at the border.
