Former president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev made appearance after a long period of silence. A photo was posted on social media by the leader of the Social Democrats Temirlan Sultanbekov.
The photo shows Almazbek Atambayev, his wife Raisa Atambayeva, deputy of the Bishkek City Council and son of the former president Kadyrbek Atambayev, Spanish Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Workers’ Party Pedro Sanchez (to the right of Almazbek Atambayev) and Temirlan Sultanbekov.
«We congratulate the Prime Minister of Spain, P. Sanchez, on the victory of his coalition in the elections! All opinion polls showed that the right-wing parties would win and form a majority coalition. But we were sure that ours would win. Thanks to the leadership of Spain for focusing on strengthening ties with our party after winning the elections,» he captioned the photo.
Early parliamentary elections in Spain were held on July 23, 2023. The elections were announced after the ruling party performed extremely poorly in local government elections in May this year.
Former president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev was released from prison on February 14. It became known that the criminal case against him for the illegal release of the crime boss Aziz Batukayev was sent for a new review. The Supreme Court canceled the previous sentences. The former head of state was also allowed to leave the country for medical treatment. He had been in custody since August 2019 (during the October 2020 events he was released for a few days and then detained again). On February 15, Almazbek Atambayev left for Dubai with his son Kadyr.
