Coal mining starts at Jyrgalan mine after 12 years of downtime

Jyrgalan coal mine, which has been idle for more than 12 years, has been launched. Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov personally got acquainted with the activities of the field within the framework of his working trip to Issyk-Kul region. It is noted that the mine was launched on the instructions of the President and will provide the city of Karakol and neighboring areas with coal in winter.

«The launch of Jyrgalan mine will make it possible to reduce the load on Kara-Keche, save money that was directed to the transportation of coal to Karakol and nearby areas,» the Cabinet said.

At least 100-120 tons of coal are now mined at Jyrgalan mine per day. 12,000 tons are needed to supply the city of Karakol, Tyup, Jeti-Oguz and Ak-Suu districts for winter. Therefore, the need for coal in these regions will be completely covered by Jyrgalan.
