Deputy Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan Shukhrat Aitiev and Teresa Ribeiro, Representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on Freedom of the Media, held a meeting. Press service of the Institute of Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan reported.
The parties discussed the rights of citizens to freedom of speech and expression and stressed the importance of following them.
Teresa Ribeiro told that the OSCE planned to launch a project in Kyrgyzstan called «Safety of Journalists».
«It is planned to provide UN member countries with mechanisms to ensure the safety of journalists. It is also important to note that journalists have problems with access to information. There are cases when government agencies refuse to provide official information to journalists,» she said.
The parties noted the importance of ensuring the security and rights of media representatives to access information.
Shukhrat Aitiev stressed that, according to the mandate, the Institute of Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic stands for the observance of the rights and ensuring the safety of journalists.
