Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev met with the Ambassador of China to Kyrgyzstan Du Dewen. Press service of the Parliament reported.
The parties exchanged views on the development of political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between Kyrgyzstan and China, including in the field of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Nurlanbek Shakiev noted that last year marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. «However, it would be right to consider this date as symbolic, because the Kyrgyz and Chinese, being neighbors since ancient times, have close ties that go back to the depths of centuries. We have a good saying «A close neighbor is better than a distant relative.» So for Kyrgyzstan, China is not just a neighboring country, but also a partner state with which strong trusting and friendly relations have been established. There are no political disagreements and problems between our states that hinder the further development of bilateral relations,» he said.
The speaker stated the dynamically developing Kyrgyz-Chinese relations, noting that this was confirmed by the last meeting of the heads of the two countries.
The Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev touched upon the development of inter-parliamentary relations, recalling that the delegation of the Parliament recently visited China, where they held talks on bilateral cooperation.
Touching upon the issues of trade and economic cooperation, Nurlanbek Shakiev noted the growth in trade between the two countries, which decreased during the coronavirus pandemic. «China is one of the main trade and economic partners of Kyrgyzstan. In particular, we are interested in the joint implementation of One Belt, One Road initiative, which will contribute to social and economic development,» the speaker said.
Nurlanbek Shakiev noted Du Dewen’s special contribution to strengthening Kyrgyzstan — China relations, praising her diplomatic activities, adding that the Kyrgyz people would remember her as an effective ambassador.
Du Dewen told about the work being done within the framework of the diplomatic mission, in particular, she provided information on projects being implemented between Kyrgyzstan and China.
She also named the initiatives that are designed to open a new page in cooperation, including the construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway.
Speaking about inter-parliamentary partnership, Du Dewen stressed that building up interaction between the National People’s Congress and the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan was one of the main goals.
She added that a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress and the Communist Party of China will arrive in Kyrgyzstan.
