Trawler tragedy: President extends condolences to Prime Minister of Pakistan

President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov sent a telegram of condolences to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif.

«I am deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of people in the wreck of a trawler in the Mediterranean Sea on June 14, including citizens of Pakistan. On behalf of the Kyrgyz people and on my own behalf, I express my sincere condolences to the people of Pakistan, as well as to the families of the victims, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. At this difficult time, we share the bitterness of an irreparable loss,» the telegram says.

Pakistan declared June 18 a National Day of Mourning for those killed off the coast of Greece. The incident occurred on June 14, when the fishing trawler with hundreds of migrants sank off the coast of Greece. The country’s media write that up to 300 Pakistanis could be on board. Earlier it was reported that most of the trawler’s passengers were men from Afghanistan, Syria, Egypt and Pakistan. They were heading to Italy. A three-day mourning was also declared in Greece on June 14.

Ten human trafficking suspects have been detained amid the incident, Pakistani officials said. The Prime Minister promised severe punishment for those involved in this type of criminal activity.
