In January—February 2026, trade in fish products in the Kyrgyz Republic showed a strong dependence on imports of frozen raw materials from non-CIS countries. The main suppliers were Chile, Denmark, and Iceland, according to data from the National Statistical Committee.
Imports of frozen and fresh products
Frozen fish accounted for the largest share of imports. In the first two months of 2026, Kyrgyzstan imported 421.1 tons of frozen fish worth 133.9 million soms (about $1.5 million). In value terms, imports in this category increased by 45.2 percent.
Key suppliers of frozen fish were:
- Chile: 165.7 tons worth 87.8 million soms
- Denmark: 55.7 tons
- Iceland: 39.8 tons
- Faroe Islands: 39.8 tons
In the segment of fresh and chilled fish, imports totaled 10.8 tons worth 26.9 million soms. The main supplier was Kazakhstan with 8.4 tons. An additional 2.5 tons of live fish were imported from Uzbekistan.
Export markets
Kyrgyzstan’s fish exports remain focused on Eurasian Economic Union markets. Since the beginning of 2026, the country exported 19.6 tons of fresh fish worth 17.6 million soms. The main buyer was Russia, which accounted for 17.7 tons.
Exports of frozen fish reached 56.2 tons worth 34.72 million soms, all of which were shipped to Kazakhstan. In physical terms, supplies to the neighboring country increased nearly fivefold compared to early 2025.
Mollusks and crustaceans
Kyrgyzstan also increased imports of mollusks, which rose by 45.5 percent to 12.8 tons. The main suppliers were China and Russia. Imports of crustaceans totaled 1.8 tons, marking a 38.5 percent increase.
