Construction of five tourist service centers around Issyk-Kul lake will begin this year. The Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism of Kyrgyzstan Kiyal Kenzhematova told at a briefing in Bishkek.
«We are starting from scratch, at the end of 2018 an agreement was ratified with the World Bank on the implementation of the project, but construction takes time. One of the components is the construction of service centers. While we were choosing land plots, two years have passed. This is routine work: to prepare documents, to conduct examinations. Therefore, we have been doing just that for 2.5 years. We must pay tribute to the Tourism Development Support Fund. They did the job in a year, and 21 Rest Points are almost ready,» she said.
The office of the Tourism Development Support Fund and the house of the head of the organization were searched. The SCNS opened a criminal case on the fact of corruption in the implementation of the project for the construction of recreation centers for tourists. The security services detained Elena Kalashnikova and Vice President of the fund Alexander Valitov.
According to investigators, the Fund used allocated by the state funds for other purposes, and also built objects at an inflated cost. In particular, under the project for construction of 21 Rest Points for tourists, 100 percent of the contract amount, or more than 105 million soms, was transferred to contractors. Not a single facility has been put into operation, there are no design estimates, as well as work completion certificates and justification for financing.
