People's Kurultai representatives could hold rallies against Parliament

Representatives of the People’s Kurultai could hold rallies against Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. Activist Bakyt Baketaev told at a press conference.

According to him, delegates of the kurultai in their WhatsApp groups are actively discussing the bill on the People’s Kurultai, approved by the relevant committee of the Parliament in the second reading. They are ready to hold rallies.

Beishenbek Abdrazakov, acting chairman of the People’s Kurultai, believes that the draft law on kurultai contradicts the Constitution and several normative legal acts.

«This is contrary to seven laws — on the local kurultai, on local state administration and local government bodies, the presidential decree on convening the People’s Kurultai, the Constitution, international conventions on human rights,» he said.

Beishenbek Abdrazakov said that the deputies decided not to support the people’s initiative, but the ideology of the West.

Recall, the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial and Legal Issues rejected the draft law on the People’s Kurultai in May 2022.

The Presidential Executive Office again submitted the document for discussion in March 2023. After disputes, the Parliament removed the bill from the agenda and created a working group. Parliament adopted the version of the working group’s draft law in the first reading on May 10.
