Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev, as part of a working trip to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (PRC), visited Irkeshtam checkpoint on the state border. Press service of the Cabinet reported.
At a meeting with the participation of the heads of relevant state bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic and China, they discussed the development of a joint transport and logistics infrastructure, removal of restrictions that impede dynamic and investment exchange, and creation of mutually beneficial trade conditions.
Bakyt Torobaev noted a number of difficulties «that need to be resolved as soon as possible.»
«The Kyrgyz side is interested in taking effective measures to optimize operation of the checkpoint, including expanding its capacity, modernizing and improving the transport and road infrastructure,» he said.
The parties also discussed construction of a bridge at the checkpoint, expansion of the road to four lanes, problems associated with simplifying the procedures for export of domestic agricultural products in China and obtaining of driver’s visas, and also considered the possibility of round-the-clock operation of the checkpoint.
