U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu to visit Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan

Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu will travel to the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan on April 22-27. The U.S. Department of State reports.

«In Bishkek, Assistant Secretary Lu will meet with senior Kyrgyz government officials to further the bilateral and regional goals discussed during the fruitful United States-Kyrgyzstan Annual Bilateral Consultations in March. Assistant Secretary Lu will also meet with economic leaders and members of civil society to discuss ways in which the United States can better support the Kyrgyz creative economy, women’s economic empowerment, human rights, and press freedom,» the statement says.

In Dushanbe, he intends to focus on deepening the United States-Tajikistan partnership and discuss security issues and a «robust civil society.»

Donald Lu visited Kyrgyzstan and other countries of the region a year ago. The Department of State noted that the purpose of the visit was to «strengthen U.S. relations with the region and promote joint efforts to create a more united, prosperous and secure Central Asia.»
