Kyrgyzstan takes part in UN Water Conference

Representatives of Kyrgyzstan took part in the UN Water Conference in New York. Website of the United Nations says.

The conference brought together heads of state and government, ministers and stakeholders from all sectors to achieve the internationally agreed sustainable development goals. The participants developed the 2030 Water Agenda, which reflects all water-related voluntary commitments and how to track progress towards their implementation. The agenda aims to encourage member states, stakeholders and the private sector to commit to urgent action to address existing water issues.

The conference identified five interactive dialogues aimed at strengthening and accelerating action in the following areas:

  • Water for health: access to safe drinking water, hygiene and sanitation.
  • Water for sustainable development: assessment of the relationship between water, energy and food, and an analysis of sustainable economic and urban development.
  • Water for Climate and the Environment: biodiversity, climate, resilience and disaster risk reduction.
  • Water for Cooperation: transboundary and international water cooperation, intersectoral cooperation and water resources under the United Nations Secretary-General’s action plan.
