Akylbek Japarov discusses cooperation, future projects with ADB head

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov met with Director General of the Asian Development Bank for Central and West Asia Eugene Zhukov. Press service of the Cabinet reported.

Topical issues of cooperation were discussed, including a new partnership strategy for Kyrgyzstan for 2023-2027, as well as a plan for ADB to support the country’s strategic investments in climate change, energy, and the private sector.

Akylbek Japarov noted that the Asian Development Bank was a strategic partner of the republic.

Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to cooperation with ADB in the development of economic sectors.

The head of the Cabinet outlined priority areas for development, including digitalization, green economy, and the implementation of renewable energy projects. «The construction of Kambar-Ata HPP-1 is a priority for us. In the coming years, from 50 to 100 small hydropower plants will be launched across the country, we also plan to launch solar and wind power plants. We would like to learn how to use the opportunities of green certificates and raise funds for the development of the green economy,» he said.

Eugene Zhukov, in turn, expressed his readiness to expand and strengthen cooperation in the implementation of large-scale strategic projects, including in the energy sector. «I would like to congratulate you on the good economic performance over the past year. The republic’s economy grew by 7 percent. You mentioned the importance of moving from small to large projects of strategic importance. We would like to participate in them,» he stressed.
