Buildings in Kyrgyzstan will withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake. Talant Imanakun uulu, head of the Bishkek Department of Architectural and Construction Control of the State Agency for Architecture, Construction, Housing and Communal Services (Gosstroy ), announced at a meeting of Mekenchil deputy group.
MP Aibek Osmonov asked what kind of quakes high-rise buildings in Kyrgyzstan would withstand, reminding about the natural disasters in Turkey.
«During construction, we take seismic calculations for a magnitude 8-9. The buildings will withstand magnitude 9,» Talant Imanakun uulu said.
He noted that the courts were considering cases on 87 illegal construction projects, 36 of them — in Bishkek.
Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 hit southern Turkey on February 6 near Gaziantep city, where more than a million people live. Dozens of aftershocks were registered in Syria, Georgia and other countries.
The Turkish Embassy in Kyrgyzstan announced collection of humanitarian aid. A single deposit account has been opened in Kyrgyzstan to raise funds to help the victims. The number of victims of earthquakes in Turkey and Syria exceeded 20,000 people.
