Uzbek doctors separated conjoined twins from Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.
According to it, surgeons for the first time independently performed an operation to separate conjoined twins.
The girls Fotima and Zukhra were born on May 31, 2022. The fact that they are conjoined twins was discovered at the 28th week of pregnancy, and their mother was sent from Osh to Bishkek. She delivered the girls by caesarean section at the 29th week of pregnancy. The total weight of children at birth was 1.6 kilograms.
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Bakhtiyor Ergashev noted that Uzbek experienced colleagues performed this extremely complex operation from beginning to end.
During the operation, in order to prevent bleeding from the liver and other vessels, ultrasound and an argon scalpel, as well as modern BloodSTOP hemostatic material, were used. As a result, the children were separated with minimal bleeding. In addition, the girls’ gallbladders were formed separately. This guaranteed that even when the two bodies were separated, these vital organs would perform their function without problems.
Experts assess the condition of children as stable.
The doctors, who took part in the surgery to separate the conjoined twins, were awarded the title «Excellent Public Health Worker».
