Economy Ministry proposes to extend ban on export of car catalysts

It is proposed to extend the ban on the export of catalytic converters from Kyrgyzstan for another six months. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce submitted the corresponding draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers for public discussion.

The ministry recalled that the ban was first introduced in August 2021 and has been constantly extended since then. As a result, the export of car catalysts to third countries decreased. In particular, in 2021, the volume of exports decreased by 92 percent compared to 2020.

There was no export at all for nine months of 2022.

«It can be concluded that the ban has a positive effect on reducing the volume of exports of catalytic converters to third countries,» the department notes.

Earlier authorities noted that the catalysts are usually removed from vehicles because they contain precious metals — salts of platinum, rhodium or palladium. Due to this, their cost can reach 13 percent of the price of the car.
