Kyrgyzstan and Russia sign memorandum on construction of railway

Within the framework of the Bishkek Investment Summit, a memorandum was signed between Kyrgyzstan and Russia on the joint implementation of the project for the construction of Balykchy — Kochkor — Kara-Keche railway. Press service of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu reported.

On the part of the Kyrgyz Republic, the document was signed by Kyrgyz Temir Zholu, on the part of the Russian Federation — by the Russian Export Center and RZD International.

«The first stage of the project implementation is the construction of a section of Balykchy — Kochkor railway with a length of 63 kilometers. This year it is planned to build 5 kilometers of the railway, the work is 90 percent completed. Construction is carried out at the expense of own funds of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu.

The strategic project will lay the foundation for a new railway junction, development of Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions. In the future, it can be connected with the projected China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railroad, creating ample opportunities for the socio-economic development of the entire Central Asian region, as well as a single railway network within the republic,» the statement says.

Kyrgyz Temir Zholu notes that this project is one of the high priority to date.
