Net inflow of foreign investments to Kyrgyzstan amounted to $395 million

The inflow of foreign investments to Kyrgyzstan in January — September 2022 exceeded their outflow by $395 million. The National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan provided such data.

The inflow of foreign direct investment amounted to more than $958 million and increased by 1.9 times compared to the same period in 2021. The bulk of foreign direct investment (about 96 percent) is directed to mining, manufacturing, financial intermediation and insurance, wholesale and retail trade, information and communications.

The volume of foreign direct investment from non-CIS countries doubled compared to January — September 2021 mainly due to their growth from Japan by 13 times, Turkey — by 4 times, Switzerland — by 2.6 times, Cyprus — by 2.1 times, China — by 1.6 times, the Netherlands — by 13.6 percent.

Turkey (33.5 percent), China (22.9 percent), the Netherlands (5.9 percent) and the UK (3.3 percent) accounted for the largest share in the total volume of foreign direct investment.

The volume of foreign direct investment from the CIS countries increased by 1.7 times compared to January — September 2021. This happened mainly due to their growth from Russia by 2.1 times and Kazakhstan by 20.8 percent.

An increase in the inflow of foreign direct investment was registered in all regions, with the exception of the Issyk-Kul region and Osh city.

The outflow of foreign direct investment decreased by 1.6 percent compared to January — September 2021 and amounted to $563.5 million. The main outflow of investments (more than 92 percent) was observed from enterprises in the field of mining, manufacturing, financial intermediation, insurance, and geological exploration.

The outflow of foreign direct investment to non-CIS countries increased by 5.5 percent compared to January — September 2021. This was mainly due to their growth to Japan by 29.1 times, Germany — by 9.5 times, Turkey — by 9.2 times and Great Britain — by 1.4 times.

Turkey (43.9 percent), China (30.8 percent) and Canada (8 percent) account for the largest share in the outflow of foreign investment.

The outflow of foreign direct investment to the CIS countries decreased by 2.3 times due to the reduction in the outflow of investments to Russia (by 3.4 times). Along with this, the outflow of investments to Kazakhstan increased by 33.4 percent.

A decrease in the outflow of foreign direct investment compared to January — September 2021 was registered in most regions, with the exception of Batken, Jalal-Abad, Naryn and Osh regions.
