MP: Bolot Temirov's expulsion from country is contrary to Constitution

Expulsion of journalist Bolot Temirov from the country is contrary to the Constitution. Deputy Dastan Bekeshev stated at a meeting of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on Thursday.

In accordance with Article 51 of the Basic Law, Kyrgyzstanis cannot be deprived of their citizenship, he said.

«But, despite this, the Kyrgyz expelled the Kyrgyz from the republic illegally. Without a court decision, police officers took him to the airport and sent him to Moscow. I understand that he carried out investigations, but one should not to take revenge by the hands of law enforcement agencies and the courts. If we use judges and law enforcement agencies in this way, then we will turn into Afghanistan,» the deputy said.

He drew the attention of international organizations to the violations taking place in Kyrgyzstan.

«Prices are rising; people have other things to worry besides politics. But why does the international community, while claiming illegality, give grants at the same time?» Dastan Bekeshev asked.

Bolot Temirov was expelled from the country by court decision on November 23. Immediately after the trial, where the verdict was announced, he was taken by force, accompanied by law enforcement officers, to the airport and sent by plane to Russia.

Earlier, the Sverdlovsky District Court acquitted Bolot Temirov on two counts. The case was dismissed on two more, including on a fake passport, due to expiration of the statute of limitations. The court did not apply punishment to the journalist.
