Kyrgyzstan needs to produce about 63,000 tons of vegetable oil to cover domestic demand. So far, a quarter of what is needed is being produced. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture Askarbek Dzhanybekov announced at a briefing.
«Vegetable oil of domestic production is still the weakest spot among socially important products. Last year we sowed 17,500 hectares of oilseeds, this year — 20,500. Based on the results of processing, we plan to get security at the level of 20-25 percent, and we will replace the rest with imports,» the minister said.
According to him, there are eight vegetable oil processing enterprises in the republic, the total capacity of which, with the necessary provision of raw materials, is enough to provide the republic with its own products.
«As for sugar, the gross harvest of sugar beets amounted to 389,000 tons last year, which made it possible to produce 45,000 tons of sugar. This year we plan to harvest 450,000-500,000 tons and produce 62,000-63,000 tons of sugar. This is a quarter more than last year’s figures,» the minister said.
Earlier, retail chains and factories agreed not to raise prices for sugar. Prices for it will remain at the same level, taking into account the preferential cost, and will be adjusted downwards in case of changes in market conditions.
