Schools in Bishkek lack 376,000 textbooks. Ainura Arstanbekova, head of the Education Department of the Bishkek City Hall, announced at a meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on social issues.
According to her, the availability of textbooks is 79 percent in schools with the Kyrgyz language of instruction and 64.5 percent — with Russian.
«There is a shortage of 241,000 textbooks in Russian and 135,000 — in Kyrgyz. In total, it is 376,000 textbooks,» said Ainura Arstanbekova.
She added that Pervomaisky district did not buy textbooks this year. «The competition was announced, documents were received, but the Cabinet of Ministers issued a decree pursuant to the presidential decree, where Uchkun was chosen as the main manufacturer of educational materials. We are waiting for amendments to all by-laws in order to hold a tender,» she said.
