Kempir-Abad: 16 politicians and activists detained in Bishkek

Interior Ministry officers detained 16 activists and politicians within the case on preparing for mass riots. Aziza Abdirasulova, the founder of Kylym Shamy human rights organization, told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, the case was initiated by the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under Article 278 «Mass Riots» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. At least 36 investigators from Naryn, Chui police departments, the Bishkek police department and the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were working.

Aziza Abdirasulova stressed that so far 16 politicians and activists have been brought to the police station:

— Bektur Asanov’s close associate Taalai Mademinov was taken to the Main Internal Affairs Department of Bishkek;

— Activist Perizat Suranova was taken to the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

— Ex-head of the State Committee for National Security Keneshbek Duishebaev and activist Erlan Bekchoroev were taken to the Leninsky Department of Internal Affairs;

— Former Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia Azimbek Beknazarov and human rights activist Rita Karasartova were taken to the Department of Internal Affairs of Sverdlovsky district;

— Ex-judge of the Constitutional Court Klara Sooronkulova and activist Ali Shabdan were taken to the Department of Internal Affairs of Pervomaisky district;

— Activist Zhenish Moldokmatov — to the Oktyabrsky police department;

— Ex-deputy Asiya Sasykbayeva — to the Department of Internal Affairs of Alamedin district.

According to the Ombudswoman Atyr Abdrakhmatova, journalist Aidanbek Akmatov was at the Main Internal Affairs Department of the capital.

«Whereabouts of Bektur Asanov, Kubanych Kadyrov, Ulugbek Mamataev, Aidanbek Akmatov, Gulnara Dzhurabaeva are not yet known,» Aziza Abdirasulova said.

A Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created the day before. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. On the same day, in an interview with Kabar news agency, President Sadyr Japarov said: the authorities have information who was behind the rallies and marches on Kempir-Abad issue.
