360,000 doses of papillomavirus vaccine delivered to Kyrgyzstan

The Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis received 358,600 doses of vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV) as a humanitarian assistance. Gulbara Ishenapysova, director of the center, told journalists.

According to her, 29,400 more doses through co-financing are expected. Subsequent batches of the vaccine will arrive in 2023.

HPV vaccination of 11-year-old girls is scheduled to begin on November 14. It is planned to cover at least 90 percent of adolescents in this age group (227,867 people).

In the first year of the introduction of the vaccine, the scientific and technical expert group on immunization also recommended to vaccinate girls at the age of 12-14.

The goal of vaccination is to reduce the number of precancerous lesions of the cervix caused by the HPV types included in the vaccine, as well as to reduce the incidence and mortality from cervical cancer.
