Russia recognized the independence of Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine. This is stated in the decrees of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, published on the official portal of legal information.
«In accordance with the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, recognizing and confirming the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, taking into account the will of the people of Kherson region at the referendum held on September 27, 2022, I hereby order to recognize the state sovereignty and independence of Kherson region,» the decree on recognition of Kherson region says.

The plane with the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions arrived in Moscow on September 28 in the evening. It is expected that the ceremony of signing agreements on the inclusion of these territories in the Russian Federation will take place today at 3 p.m. Moscow time in the Grand Kremlin Palace.
Referendums on joining Russia were held from September 23 to September 27 in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine. According to their results, 99.23 percent of voters voted for joining the Russian Federation in the DPR, 98.42 percent in the LPR, 93.11 percent in Zaporozhye region, and 87.05 percent in Kherson region.
