President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov took part in an extraordinary session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the form of a videoconference, which was held at the initiative of the Armenian side. Press service of the head of state reported.
The extraordinary session was devoted to the situation on Armenia — Azerbaijan border.
Sadyr Japarov noted that Kyrgyzstan has been extremely concerned about the escalation of the situation on the border of two friendly states.
The President stressed the need to resolve the situation exclusively through political and diplomatic means and expressed hope that both sides would refrain from using force in the future and resolve disputes by peaceful means based on confidence-building measures between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Following the meeting, it was decided that the CSTO would send a mission to Armenia headed by the Secretary-General Stanislav Zas to assess the situation. It will include the head of the organization’s joint headquarters Anatoly Sidorov and representatives of the member states. The CSTO will create a working group to monitor the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. It will consist of employees of the secretariat and military personnel of the Joint Staff, the press service of the organization said.
Situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border aggravated on Tuesday night. Armenia announced aggression by Azerbaijan, Baku called it a provocation by Yerevan. According to the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, 49 Armenian servicemen were killed as a result of night battles, while Azerbaijan reported 50 killed servicemen.
