USAID provides hospitals of Kyrgyzstan with medical equipment

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided state-of-the-art equipment to leading hospitals in the Kyrgyz Republic that will strengthen their capacity to diagnose COVID-19 and other communicable diseases and prevent their spread. The Ministry of Health reports.

The National Hospital of the Kyrgyz Republic received a high-tech mobile video bronchoscope to more efficiently and effectively examine patients’ airways and lungs.

The Chui Regional Hospital received a mobile x-ray machine to diagnose patients and ensure their safety and comfort.

In addition, Osh City Hospital now has special disinfection chambers to sanitize bed sheets, and other belongings, which will contribute to controlling the spread of disease.

The total value of the equipment is 15 million soms ($190,000).

«This equipment will support the Kyrgyz Republic’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and contribute to strengthening the overall capacity of our country’s health system» said Deputy Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Nuriyla Sherieva.

Kaya Adams, USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Mission Director, noted that in addition to providing necessary technology, the USAID programs also focus on equipping health care professionals with the right knowledge and skills.

Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak, USAID has provided more than $10 million to help the Kyrgyz Republic fight the pandemic.
