Population of Kyrgyzstan grows by 7.8 percent over the past five years

Over the past five years, the population of Kyrgyzstan has grown by 390,600 people, or 7.8 percent. The National Statistical Committee reported.

According to the committee, 6,256.7 million people lived in Kyrgyzstan as of January 1, 2018. By the beginning of 2022, the figure increased to 6,647.3 million.

With the growth of the population over the specified period, the number of rural residents decreased by 1.5 percent. However, the predominance of the rural population over the urban population remained. To date, 35.4 percent of Kyrgyzstanis live in cities and towns and 64.6 percent — in villages.

The gender ratio of the population remained unchanged: 50.4 percent are women and 49.6 percent are men.

The average age of Kyrgyzstanis at the beginning of 2022 was 28 years.
