To date, lists of 400 children and 200 women from Kyrgyzstan, who are in prisons in Iraq and Syria, have been compiled. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev announced at a press conference.
According to him, the figures are still being specified and the number may be higher, because it is difficult to obtain the necessary information from regional places of detention.
«We are negotiating on the return of children to Kyrgyzstan. Negotiations are also underway on mothers. But it is much more difficult, because everything depends on the severity of the sentences under which they were placed in places of detention,» Jeenbek Kulubaev specified.
Earlier it was reported that 79 children were returned to Kyrgyzstan in 2022, who, together with their mothers, were kept in the prisons of Baghdad (Iraq).
