Domestic violence: Naryn region officials fined for inaction

The prosecutor’s office fined deputy heads of districts in Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan for failing to prevent domestic violence in the region. Press service of the supervisory authority reported.

The regional prosecutor’s office conducted an inspection in local state administrations for compliance with the requirements of the Law On Protection from Domestic Violence.

It was established that 132 cases of domestic violence were registered in the region for six months of 2022, 118 of which (89.4 percent) were against women, 13 (9.8 percent) were against children. In particular, these are 64 cases of physical violence (48.5 percent) and 68 (51.5 percent) — psychological one.

«Due to the fact that the district administrations did not take appropriate measures to prevent domestic violence, the regional prosecutor’s office initiated five administrative proceedings against deputy heads of districts under Article 435 of the Code of Offenses,» the statement says.

Thus, deputy heads of districts were fined 50,000 soms.

The regional prosecutor’s office will step up measures to prevent domestic violence, work with families and children in difficult situations, and combatting crime among teenagers.
