A rating on the observance of human rights by government agencies appeared in Kyrgyzstan. Ombudsman Atyr Abdrakhmatova announced during the national dialogue on human rights in Kyrgyzstan.
According to her, the study was conducted for the first time and should help in monitoring the human rights protection. Atyr Abdrakhmatova added that Kyrgyzstan is in 99th place in the world human rights index, and this is a very bad result.
The Ombudsman noted that the country often has a formal approach to the observance of rights. As an example she cited a political scientist Marat Kazakpaev, accused of treason, who fell into a coma and is in intensive care unit. According to the wife of the accused, he was threatened at the State Committee for National Security. «Is this not a direct violation of human rights?» Atyr Abdrakhmatova said.
She also recalled an incident at Suzak school, where a teacher beat a schoolgirl and the adults took the side of the teacher. «I was told that the girl has a loose tongue and she got what she deserved. But such an attitude is unacceptable,» Atyr Abdrakhmatova believes.
According to the Ombudsman, only 18 percent of the people surveyed in the country believe that human rights are respected.
