«E-commerce has received a tremendous boost for development during the pandemic, but at the moment it is not regulated very effectively,» the Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission Sergei Glazyev said during a video conference.
According to him, there is a huge flow of goods in e-commerce, which supposedly goes for individual needs. But in fact it is delivered for wholesale and retail trade.
«If an item comes as a personal package, then we should not be deceived. It’s actually a commercial transaction. Our deficiencies in terms of taxation, tariff regulation measures and quality control are all big gaps. These gaps are difficult to fill, because people are used to receiving cheap goods that do not always meet quality requirements. Due to the fact that such goods often evade VAT and customs duties, they turn out to be cheaper than EAEU goods, which does not make our industry very happy,» Sergei Glazyev stressed.
