Kyrgyzstan receives additional quota for duty-free import of sugar

Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan received additional quotas for duty-free import of white sugar and raw sugar. Andrey Slepnev, Minister for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), announced today at a briefing.

According to him, this issue was discussed last week at a meeting of the EEC. He noted that there are surplus markets in terms of sugar (Russia, Belarus) and undersupplied ones (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan) in the Eurasian Economic Union.

«Kazakhstan has been granted a privilege for duty-free import of 100,000 tons of white sugar and raw sugar, and Kyrgyzstan — 35,000 tons. We agreed to return to this issue again by May, taking into account all the balance sheets and the results of the sowing work, in order to take additional measures, if necessary. This is necessary in order to make our balance sheets for food products reliable,» Andrey Slepnev emphasized.
