Torture victims get compensation three years later in Kyrgyzstan

Victims of torture were paid compensation for moral damage three years later in Kyrgyzstan. Lawyer Agzam Dushenaliev told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the police detained four people in 2013, two of whom were minors. The police illegally detained the young people for three days and wanted them to confess to murder.

«The young men were beaten and tasered for three days. They filed a complaint of torture, and the Osh City Court found the policemen guilty. The law enforcers were sentenced by the first instance to 12 and 14 years in prison. However, the Osh Regional Court commuted their sentence and gave them a suspended sentence. After the guilty verdict in 2019, we filed a lawsuit for compensation for moral damage, and we received the compensation only in 2022. Back in 2019, the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek ruled to pay 100,000 soms to each. The money was allocated by the Ministry of Finance in 2022 at the expense of funds provided for financing of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The case against the suspects was dismissed,» Agzam Dushenaliev said.
