Conflict in Ukraine: Kyrgyzstan to have no problems with supply of medicines

Kyrgyzstan will not experience problems with provision and supply of medicines, despite the situation in Ukraine. The Deputy Minister of Health Zhalalidin Rakhmatullaev said to 24.kg news agency.

According to statistics, 19 percent of medicines came from Russia, 9 percent — from Ukraine last year, he said.

«In connection with the situation between these two countries, we have stepped up the work of the drug supply department, the Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund and the heads of all healthcare institutions to prevent disruption in the provision with medicines. Today, all medical institutions have a stock of medicines for three months. Tenders for the next quarter have been announced. According to the reports, there should be no disruptions. Moreover, we already have such experience. In 2020, during the lockdown, when everything stopped, we were able to provide the necessary medicines,» the Deputy Minister said.

He noted that the ministry has applied to the World Health Organization and other international partners with a request for assistance in providing the population with insulin.

«We have already received a response from the WHO. We were among the first to apply. The issue is resolved. Insulin should be delivered within two months,» Zhalalidin Rakhmatullaev concluded.

Situation in Ukraine remains complicated. Fighting continues. Russia started a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of military and civilian casualties continues to grow. Many states have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions on Russia.
