Campaign against harassment launched in Kyrgyzstan

An information campaign against harassment has begun on social media in Kyrgyzstan. UNDP reports.

The initiative was supported by representatives of show business, activists, and journalists. As part of the media campaign, videos about harassment were prepared, and an artist Tatyana Zelenskaya made a series of illustrations.

The main goal of the campaign is to inform the public about the types of harassment and tell how to protect yourself when it occurs.

According to a study by the Kyrgyz Association of Women Judges, every fourth woman in Kyrgyzstan has experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.

«Harassment is manifestations of violence that are most often directed at women and girls. These are any unacceptable actions or threats that humiliate a person, violate personal boundaries, and cause harm. It can happen anywhere: at work, on the street, in an institution, in a taxi or on the Internet,» the organizers noted.

They added that the concept of «harassment» is not yet defined as an offense by Kyrgyz law.
