Kazakhstan bans export of gold and cash foreign currency of over $10,000

The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has banned the export of foreign currency and gold from the country. The Kazakh media report.

The President of Kazakhstan signed the decree on measures to ensure financial stability of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It prohibits taking cash foreign currency and (or) monetary instruments in foreign currency in the amount exceeding the equivalent of $10,000 out of the country. Export of refined gold bars of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 grams and investment coins from ALTYN BARYS gold and KÚMIS BARYS silver issued by the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as refined gold of over 100 grams is now prohibited.

The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan last week banned commercial banks and exchange offices from taking cash U.S. dollars out of the country.
