Situation in Ukraine: Ceasefire - main topic of second round of talks

Talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations will be held today, March 3. RBK reports.

According to a representative of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky, the sides will discuss, among other things, a ceasefire.

Earlier, Russia outlined its conditions:

  • Crimea is a part of Russia;
  • Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics are recognized within the administrative borders of the regions;
  • Demilitarization of Ukraine with specific parameters to be agreed is necessary: there should be no weapons at all that could threaten the security of the Russian Federation;
  • Denazification of Ukraine, as it was done with Nazi Germany.

During the first round of negotiations, according to media reports, the Ukrainian side insisted on the withdrawal of all Russian troops from the country, as well as from Crimea and Donbass, which Kiev considers its own territories.

Today is the eighth day of fighting in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced start of a special military operation. It was regarded in Ukraine and in the West as a full-scale invasion.

Second round of Russian-Ukrainian talks is expected today.
