The UNDP plans to organize a visit of a parliamentary delegation of Sweden to Kyrgyzstan. The Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
On February 28, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Azizbek Madmarov met with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Louise Chamberlain. She said that in April the UNDP plans to arrange a visit of a Swedish parliamentary delegation to Kyrgyzstan to get acquainted with the activities of the UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic.
«The Swedish side is interested in examining the prospects for increasing the amount of funding for UNDP projects in Kyrgyzstan,» the statement says.
In this regard, Louise Chamberlain requested assistance in organization of the forthcoming visit as well as meetings of the Swedish delegation with the country’s leadership, members of the Parliament, and heads of key ministries.
Azizbek Madmarov noted that against the backdrop of climate change, Kyrgyzstan and Sweden faced the risk of reducing the area of mountain glaciers. This threatens both countries with the emergence of new challenges and problems on a wide range of issues, such as the reduction of water resources, deterioration of agriculture, food security, health care, and the social situation of the population. The Deputy Minister expressed the interest of the Kyrgyz side in cooperation with the Swedish counterparts in sustainable mountain development, as well as in organizing the upcoming visit of Swedish parliament members.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue coordinating actions to prepare for the visit of the Swedish deputies.
