Border conflict: Schools in border areas resume offline classes

Schools in Ak-Tatyr, Samarkandek, Kok-Tash, Ak-Sai, Orto-Boz, Paski-Aryk, Tash-Tumshuk villages of Batken region resumed work today. Press service of the Batken Department of Internal Affairs reported.

Education process was temporarily suspended in schools located in the nearest areas on January 27 due to the border conflict.

«The safety of schoolchildren is monitored by police officers of the Youth Liaison Service. In addition, in order to control public order and prevent provocative actions, police officers carry out information and explanatory work,» the Department of Internal Affairs noted.

On January 27 at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of ​ Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.

At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
