Border conflict: Police continue to serve in high alert mode

The staff of the Department of Internal Affairs of Batken region continues serving in the high alert mode. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The staff of the Department of Internal Affairs of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and Sughd region of Tajikistan will continue joint round-the-clock patrols in Zhany-Zher, Arka-1, Arka-2, Dostuk, Zhashtyk, Kulundu, Maksat, Sada and Kulundu villages of Leilek district and in the villages of Gafurov district of Sughd region of Tajikistan, in the villages of Ak-Sai, Tash-Tumshuk, Orto-Boz, Kok-Terek, Kok-Tash, Samarkandek, Kyzyl-Bel, Dostuk, Kara-Bak, Bakai, Ak-Sai-Razvilka, Ak-Sai-Voruh of Batken district.

«Policemen conduct a set of organizational and preventive measures to ensure public order and security, to prevent possible illegal actions in the border territories of Batken region. The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as stable. Head of the Department of Internal Affairs of the region, Murat Boronov, coordinates the actions of the internal affairs bodies and the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on protection of public order,» the department informed.

On January 27 at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of ​ Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.

At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
