No private hydropower station sells electricity to population in Kyrgyzstan

None of the private hydropower stations sells electricity to the population. The Energy Minister of Kyrgyzstan Doskul Bekmurzaev announced at a parliamentary meeting.

According to him, during negotiations with private companies, investors said that it was unprofitable for them to sell electricity to the population.

«We asked to connect to our system in order to subsequently sell electricity to the population. Some investors refused, openly stating that it was profitable for them to sell electricity to mining farms. Not a single company sells electricity to the population for 75 tyins or 50 tyins to low-income families,» Doskul Bekmurzaev said.

MP Zhanar Akaev said that the current situation in the energy sector is not easy. The Toktogul HPS lacks 9.5 billion cubic meters of water. «I would like to say that small hydropower plants can sell electricity to the people, and not to mining farms. We need to call them to order,» he added.
