Parliament of Kyrgyzstan supported the decision of the parliamentary commission to refuse to strip a deputy Bakyt Zhetigenov of his immunity.
According to the Chairwoman of the commission Aisuluu Mamashova, the charges of the Prosecutor General’s Office are not supported by a sufficient evidence base.
«Bakyt Zhetigenov did not stage a rally in Chui region. He participated in the rally as a member of Parliament and a person of authority in Chui region. There were no calls for seizure of power in his speech,» Aisuluu Mamashova said.
The commission’s decision was supported by 88 MPs with one against.
Bakyt Zhetigenov is suspected of attempt to seize power. He was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center. The investigation believes that he entered into an agreement with the leader of El Yntymagy association Askat Temraliev. Members of this movement and Bakytbek Zhetigenov were organizing mass protests in the capital, after which a violent seizure of power was to take place.
