New Year fireworks were canceled in Bishkek city. Press service of the City Hall of the capital of Kyrgyzstan reported.
The decision was reportedly made for environmental reasons.
«Every year in the autumn-winter period, the townspeople are faced with a noticeable deterioration in air quality, the level of air pollution in the capital hits anti-records. In this regard, the City Hall considers it wrong to worsen the already fragile environmental situation,» the Сity Hall said.
It added that the funds — about 800,000 soms — will be spent on more important targets.
«In order to preserve the environment and safety, the City Hall urges residents of the city to refrain from buying and using firecrackers and hand-held fireworks during New Year’s Eve celebrations,» the City Hall added.
